A Poem for His True Presence

John 6:67

“Do you also wish to go away?”

Your face, wrinkled in pain

Holding Your breath

As You await my response

Will I choose to remain?

“Do you also wish to go away?”

Their footsteps slowly fade

A chance to take You at Your Word

To strive toward the narrow gate

To have Your life in me

Only eyes of faith can perceive

The miracle of miracles

A choice to receive, not demand

A choice to trust, not understand

Life pours forth from your words of Truth

True Food that heals, revives, and soothes

My tired body on this pilgrimage

As I make my way back to You

“Do you also wish to go away?”

No, Lord. Not me.

How could I break the battered Heart

That freely shed His grace and mercy?

“Do you also wish to go away?”

No, Lord. Not I.

I’ll stand here faithfully

As You quietly, intimately

Join Your broken Flesh with mine
